Why was the show pulled from the Austin Market? |
While we will never know the exact reason, we know what was said on the air. Russ was never happy with the name of the Austin affiliate, "The Coyote." Russ felt that this was a name you would give to a country station, not a talk station. In the beginning, Russ even suggested that they call it, "Live! 104.3" which would fit nicely with the Dallas imaging. The program director, Dusty Hayes, didn't listen to anyone, and went ahead with his plans. Something probably happened off the air that was the deciding factor for Russ. So, Russ told KOYT that he was pulling the show, and the last day on the air would be 01/11/2005. Well, Dusty was fearful of what Russ might say, never mind that Gavin has a dump button, and Dusty has a dump button. So, Dusty didn't allow the show to air on 01/11/2005, thus denying Russ a chance to say goodbye to the Austin audience. Russ had the following text on his web site for a time after this incident.
We were unable to come to terms with KOYT and the Russ Martin Show will no longer air in Austin.
You may still listen to the show at www.russmartin.info.
We enjoyed our time down there. There are no known plans to return the show to the Austin market. |

For a time, JD would count the days until April 3, 2006. Why? |
That was the date that Russ' contract with Infinity Radio was to expire. Russ had JD countdown the days to put pressure on Infinity management to get the deal done. Russ and JD have since signed a new contract with will keep them around through 2008 or 2009. |

Why is there a screen door in the studio? |
Why not? The truth is, I forgot why they wanted on in there. Alas, Russ had some folks come in and put the screen door in the studio. It's the old school kind, complete with the real screen part of the door. It even has a lock, (the small hook) and a doorbell. That's right, the number one show in the number five market, has a screen door in the studio. |

Why did Russ start dipping? |
On May 1, 2007, Trey Trenholm stopped dipping. Russ decided to antagonize him by dipping in front of him. For the first few days Russ got a real buzz from the nicotine. After that, it became a calming effect for him, and he continued to dip on a regular basis. Trey warned him this would happen, but Russ doesn't care, and continues to blame Trey for his new addiction. |

Why is J.D.'s head so big? |
As you can see from the Virtual Studio Tour on Russ' site, and the link picture of J.D. on Eddie's site, J.D. has a rare disorder called "Craniomungus Largeuss" which causes one's head to swell to colossal sizes. More advanced cases actually develop their own gravitational pull, and suck in low flying planes, and in extreme cases, passing satellites. It's a bit, maybe. |
Why is everyone so mean to Trey? |
Trey loves it. He's a masochist. The worse you treat him, the more turned on he gets. It's a bit, maybe. |
Why does Russ and the show not like Rich Berra? |
Why does Russ and the show not like Kidd Kraddick? |
This has been asked many times by people on the show, and each time they state they can't remember why. However, Russ and Kidd worked on KEGL at the same time, and as such would have known each other. JD once mentioned that they just know how each other works, and have a general dislike for each other. [Of course, it would have nothing to do with the fact that Kidd is constantly stealing content from Russ, now would it?] |

Why is Russ going to XM Radio? |
For the love of... IT'S A BIT. ...maybe. Okay, so it ISN'T a bit.. or maybe it is.. perhaps.. or it may not be.. sort of.. uh.. who knows? But just in case, go ahead and look into The Sony XPlod for your car. |
