The Heroes Parade

Thursday, 17 August 2006 16:38 Last Updated on Friday, 02 March 2007 18:28

The Heroes Parade got it's start under the name of the "Police and Fire Parade." It was meant as another way to honor Police Officers and Fire Fighters who serve and protect us each day. In 2004 it was officially renamed "The Heroes Parade"

You would think that an event like this would be easy to put on. Not so. Each year the program director wants to stick station vehicle in the Parade. This upsets Russ each year, as he doesn't want it to be a station event.

Parade History

In 2002, the parade ended at the Texas Motorplex, in Ennis, Texas. (At the time of this writing, the start point has been forgotten by the author. Possibly, it was the AAC.

In 2003, the parade started at the American Airlines Center, and made it's way to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. Over 50 agencies were in attendance.

The 2004 parade, held on 09/11/2004, was even larger still. This one again began at the American Airlines Center and ended at Texas Stadium. This year it was officially renamed the "Heroes Parade."

2005 - Held on 09/10/2005. Parade starts at Texas Stadium and ends at Texas Motor Speedway. Attendance was down this year due Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the sudden surge in gas price.

2006 - The 2006 Heroes Parage is scheduled for September 23, 2006. For more information visit http://www.heroesparade.com/

Don on Twitter?

After many weeks of frustration, I gave up on the live Twitter feed here on the side of the site. Some days it would work, others it wouldn't.

So, if you want to follow me on Twitter, you'll have to do so by following me @donsierra.
